Choosing a favorite mythological creature was hard. Unicorn 🦄 won this time with dragons 🐉 being a very close second, but I could have easily checked a box labeled “all the above.” And I like Wyrmspan much, much better than Wingspan.

I wish one could have more than five poll options. I struggled narrowing it down to five for the poll!

The unfortunate thing is that dragons in recent tales have taken on more human characteristics. Not that this is bad, per se (ex: Smaug), but TR did not like animals being anthropomorphized. I wonder how he would feel about this being done to dragons, since they are mythological creatures?

TR was actually okay with some anthropomorphism so long as it was obvious that it wasn’t scientific fact but instead was imaginative. He didn’t mind Jack London, for example. He didn’t like when authors made it so realistic that it wasn’t clear that it was a story. I’m guessing, therefore, TR wouldn’t have any issues with some anthropomorphism for mythological creatures since it’s clear that they are fictional.

Another amazing article! It is cool to know that TR had a fondness for fantasy and seemed to be a well-rounded individual. Also, I like Wyrmspan a lot more than Wingspan. The mechanics and strategies seem to click in my head better. And the fact that I won my first game is another reason!

Thanks, Sam! TR was quite the fella, as my mom would say. While I like Wyrmspan (especially the mythical component), Wingspan is still first in my heart. Looking forward to the next time we can play Wyrmspan together!
